The Territorial Army (TA) Entry Scheme is a unique opportunity for civilians and ex-servicemen to serve as officers in the Indian Territorial Army while continuing with their primary professions. The Territorial Army acts as a reserve force of the Indian Army, primarily assisting in national security, disaster management, internal security, and civil operations when required.

Eligibility Criteria

Here’s eligibility criteria for candidates applying for the Territorial Army as an officer:

  • Nationality: The candidate must be a citizen of India (male or female).

  • Age Limit: Minimum 18 years and  Maximum 42 years (as of the last day of application).

  • Educational Qualification: Graduate from any recognized university.

  • Employment Requirement: The candidate must be gainfully employed in a full-time job, business, or self-employment. Serving members of the Indian Army, Navy, Air Force, Police, Paramilitary Forces, or similar forces are not eligible.

  • Physical & Medical Standards: Candidates must be physically and medically fit as per Indian Army standards.

Selection Process

  • Written Exam – Two papers (Reasoning & Mathematics, GK & English), 100 questions, minimum 40% per paper, 50% overall.

  • Preliminary Interview Board (PIB) – Shortlisted candidates appear for an interview at Territorial Army Group HQ.

  • SSB Interview – The SSB interview is a five-day evaluation process. It assesses a candidate’s personality, intelligence, and psychological suitability, which includes various tests such as WAT, TAT, SRT, PPDT, GTO tasks, group discussions, personal interviews, and psychological evaluations.

  • Medical Examination – Conducted at Military Hospitals for shortlisted candidates.

  • Final Merit List & Selection – Based on SSB performance, medical fitness, and vacancies, followed by training at IMA, Dehradun.

Training

  • Initial Training: One month of basic military training in the first year of commission. Two months of annual training every year, including the first year.

  • Post Commission Training: Selected candidates undergo a 3-month post-commission training at a designated military training academy.

  • Service Commitment: Territorial Army officers serve for 2-3 months per year, depending on military requirements. Officers can volunteer for longer service durations if required.
