The Final Group Task (FGT) is the concluding task in the SSB Group Testing Officer (GTO) series. By this stage, the GTO has likely formed an impression of each candidate’s abilities based on their performance in previous tasks. The FGT provides candidates with one last chance to demonstrate their teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving skills. For those who may have missed opportunities in the earlier tasks, this is a vital moment to showcase their qualities.
Watch our detailed video overview about Final Group Task (FGT) in SSB Interview:
Objective and Structure of the FGT
The FGT is similar to the Progressive Group Task (PGT), but with fewer obstacles to cross. While the PGT involves navigating four obstacles, the FGT typically includes only one. This single obstacle setup requires candidates to work quickly, make fast decisions, and execute their plans efficiently. The rules, helping materials, and out-of-bounds areas are consistent with those used in the PGT and Half Group Task (HGT).
Rules and Guidelines in FGT
As in the PGT and HGT, the obstacles in the FGT are painted with three colors, each representing a specific rule:
White: Both candidates and helping materials can touch the obstacle in this region.
Black: Only candidates are allowed to touch the obstacle; helping materials are not allowed.
Red: Neither candidates nor helping materials are allowed to touch the obstacle.
Out-of-Bounds Areas
Some areas in the FGT are designated as out-of-bounds. These areas include specific surfaces or sections marked with the color codes above. Candidates must avoid touching these areas to ensure successful task completion.
Helping Materials and Their Use
Each group is provided with the following materials to assist in crossing the obstacle:
- Wooden Plank (6 feet in length)
- Balli (wooden log)
- Rope
- In addition to these items, the team must carry a load across the obstacle. By using techniques such as fulcrums and cantilevers, candidates work together to create solutions that enable them to navigate the obstacle with the provided materials.
Tips for Success in the Final Group Task
Avoid Eye Contact with the GTO: Focus entirely on the task and your team members, not the GTO. This shows that you are naturally engaged and confident.
Be Authentic: As with all tasks, maintain your natural personality. Whether providing ideas or supporting others, your authentic self is what the GTO wants to see.
Contribute Actively: Offer solutions and ideas. If you don’t have a solution, assist those who do. Your participation is key, even if you are not leading the idea generation.
Respect the Rules: Adhering to the rules is critical. If a rule is broken, acknowledge it and follow the GTO’s instructions to correct the action.
Engage as a Team Player: Work collaboratively with others and contribute wherever possible. Show your cooperation and willingness to help the group succeed.
Be Open and Positive: Listen to others’ ideas and incorporate them if they are better suited to the challenge. Displaying flexibility and positivity reflects your ability to work well in a team setting.
Final Thoughts on the FGT
The Final Group Task is your last opportunity to exhibit Officer-like Qualities (OLQs) such as leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving under pressure. By maintaining a collaborative attitude, adhering to the rules, and showing a willingness to engage actively, you can make a strong impression on the GTO. The FGT, like the other tasks, is not just about completing the obstacle; it’s about demonstrating your potential to lead, cooperate, and adapt in a team environment.
